Sea Water Still Cold in Çanakkale: Too Early for Swimming
In the first week of May, sea water temperatures across Çanakkale are below seasonal averages. According to meteorological data, sea temperatures in the region vary between 9 and 16°C, and experts emphasize that it is still too early for swimming.
Situation on Gökçeada (Imbros) and Bozcaada (Tenedos)
Especially around Gökçeada and Bozcaada in the Northern Aegean, sea water temperatures are below seasonal norms. Temperatures measured around the islands are reported to be around 14-15°C. These values are well below the comfortable swimming range of 20-22°C.
Latest at Kabatepe and Geyikli
Sea water is similarly cold at Kabatepe and Geyikli, where ferries depart for Gökçeada. The swimming season has not yet started at the beaches in these areas.
When Can You Swim?
Sea water temperatures usually become suitable for swimming by the second half of June. On Gökçeada and Bozcaada, this period can sometimes extend into July. It's worth noting that the Aegean Sea generally warms up later than the Mediterranean.
Visitors planning a holiday are advised to choose late June or July for sea activities.
