Storm Warning in the Northern Aegean: Gökçeada (Imbros) to Be Affected

The Çanakkale Meteorological Directorate has issued yellow and orange level warnings for the sea and coastline due to a strong storm expected to begin at 00:00 on Friday, May 1 and last until 13:00 in the Northern Aegean Sea.

The strong Poyraz (northeasterly) wind is expected to reach speeds of 60-75 kilometers per hour, causing waves of up to 3-4 meters at sea. Gökçeada (Imbros) and its surroundings are among the areas that will feel this meteorological situation most intensely.

Ferry Services Will Be Affected

It is stated that ferry services on the Kabatepe–Gökçeada and Çanakkale–Eceabat routes may be restricted or completely suspended, especially in the early morning hours. Those planning to travel to or from the island are kindly requested to keep their plans flexible, considering possible cancellations and delays.

Risk Groups and Precautions

At sea: Small boats and fishing vessels must absolutely remain in port. Going out to sea for recreational water activities during this period may be life-threatening.

On the coastline: Rough waves, especially on the northern shores, pose a serious danger for walkers and those wanting to fish. Avoid approaching open areas such as breakwaters and piers.

Driving: The strong Poyraz can cause sudden surprises on bridges, passes, and tree-lined roads; reduce speed on winding coastal roads.

• Avoid going outside unnecessarily
• Bring in items that could fly away, such as awnings and flower pots
• If you have a ferry ticket, call the operator early
• Keep flashlights and chargers ready in case of possible power outages
