Master Plan for Camping and Caravan Tourism on Gökçeada Underway

The "Camping and Caravan Tourism Workshop," bringing together officials from Gökçeada (Imbros) and surrounding districts along with industry representatives, was held at the Parion Hotel meeting hall as part of Tourism Week events. The meeting, which featured important announcements directly impacting the island's future, took shape with the joint participation of local administrators and academics.

The workshop was attended by Gökçeada District Governor Osman Acar, Bozcaada District Governor Oğuzhan Altunay, Gökçeada Mayor Bülent Ecevit Atalay, Geyikli Mayor Mevlüt Oruçoğlu, representatives of tourism associations, and students from Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University (ÇOMÜ) Faculty of Tourism.

Emphasis on Sustainable Tourism

Çanakkale Provincial Director of Culture and Tourism Çağman Esirgemez, who delivered the opening speech, highlighted changing tourism trends and noted that camping and caravan tourism offers a sustainable model. Esirgemez emphasized that Çanakkale has great potential in this area thanks to its natural and historical riches, but added that planning and regulatory deficiencies must be addressed as soon as possible.

Master Plan Coming for Gökçeada

The most striking announcement of the workshop came from Gökçeada District Governor Osman Acar. Acar stressed that the islands are a strong attraction center for caravan tourism and gave the following message:

"We aim to prepare a comprehensive master plan for camping and caravan tourism on Gökçeada. The decisions from the workshop will guide us in this process."

Çanakkale Camping and Caravan Association President Cansel Güven expressed that the biggest problem in the sector is the lack of standards. Güven said that if camping and caravan tourism is given a more planned and organized structure, Çanakkale could become a national-scale exemplary center in this field.

The workshop continued with table studies formed around the determined topics. Industry representatives directly conveyed their problems and solution suggestions to the authorities. It was stated that the master plan planned for Gökçeada would take shape in light of these views.
