Gökçeada is gearing up to welcome professional athletes from all over Turkey this May. The Turkish Underwater Sports Federation (TSSF) will organize the Spearfishing Turkish Championship in the island's pristine waters between May 8-10, 2026.

As the first concrete step signaling the start of preparations, the TSSF Organization Team visited the island ahead of the championship and met with Gökçeada's Mayor Bülent Ecevit Atalay. The meeting covered critical topics such as technical details, safety planning, and accommodation arrangements for athletes. This coordination meeting between the municipality and the federation is seen as an important step toward ensuring the event runs smoothly.
