10,000-Person Beach Built Where the Sun Sets Last

Bülent Ecevit Atalay, mayor of Gökçeada (Imbros) district in Çanakkale, announced that they have built a beach at Uğurlu, the last place where the sun sets, capable of accommodating 10,000 people.

Noting that Gökçeada, the world's first and only Cittaslow (slow city) island, boasts many riches such as Ottoman-era architectural works, cheese rocks, and Salt Lake, Atalay said, "We are working and developing projects so that Gökçeada can get a larger share of tourism."

Atalay expressed that they are among Turkey's important centers for windsurfing and are pleased with the interest shown in this regard.

Gizli Liman (Hidden Harbor) being opened to tourism

Stating that they have taken important steps for the development of Gökçeada since taking office, Atalay said one of their efforts is to open the area known as Gizli Liman (Hidden Harbor), the westernmost part of the island, to tourism.

Atalay noted that they have arranged the 1,840-meter-long beach on the coast called Gizli Liman and shared the following:

"Our landscaping work continues. Our beach is ready. Our facilities are being set up gradually. It will be ready for summer. Trees will be planted, and with other work, Gizli Liman will become an indispensable place for tourists."

The most beautiful beach in Turkey's westernmost point

Stating that the beach has been arranged as a facility serving 10,000 people at the same time, Atalay said, "A significant part will be open to the public. It's the most beautiful beach in Turkey's westernmost point. For sea, sand, and sun, and at the end of the day, for a mesmerizing sunset, this place will be one of Turkey's favorite spots. This is the last place where the sun sets."

Gökçeada's Uğurlu location, at the westernmost point of the Aegean Sea, hosts thousands of visitors every year with its sunset view. The newly arranged beach facility is planned to open for service starting this season.
